Happenings at High Point

High Point, North Carolina. Home Furnishings Capital of the World. When I started at Design Manager 10 years ago it was one of the first things I learned. How designers would flock to "Market" to buy furniture, meet up with friends, and forge relationships with vendors. It seemed like a tradition that held strong in an industry that was going through a lot of changes.

I had been to High Point once before to give a presentation, but it was a quick trip, in and out in a day and a half. This year I was able to spend 3 full days just hitting events, talking to designers, meeting new vendors, and enjoying the sights. It was a whirlwind, but we had so much fun.

We were lucky enough to hang with Steelyard ( - sign up for free!), so we could call their Designer's Lounge at Universal Showroom our home base.

The team at Steelyard is fantastic so popping from event to event with them was a delight.  Steelyard even put together a wildly popular and super fun nail polish trail.

It was exciting hitting the different showrooms, but Ravi and Shashi at Chandra actually let us tailgate with our friends, Jason and Jeremy of Bauer Clifton Interiors and Thomas Lester of Home Accents Today.

We met up with another friend, Kelli Ellis, who ironically I had the pleasure of meeting during my last High Point trip.  She was killing it over at Sunpan as she talked about the data behind design and introduced her new furniture collection which will debut Spring of 2018.  You can find more details on her website.

A High Point party isn't complete without everyone's favorite podcast host, Nick May.  Nick hosted a few panels around High Point and was also doing live interviews.  To hear the sounds of High Point you can listen to his latest episodes at The Chaise Lounge Podcast.

We ended with a private tour of the unbelievable Theodore Alexander Showroom by our dear friend Steven Avitable.  The showroom was sprawling and so was Steven's product knowledge.  We fell in love with a brand new Medea Lifestyle 1905 collection that Theodore Alexander launched at High Point Market.

High Point Market is the opposite of relaxing, it's exhilarating.  But as many have described it past and present, it's heaven.  Please share your High Point experiences in the comments section below.
