Fun Facts with Patrick Dragonette and Katie Lambert

A Glimpse Inside the Minds of Two DM Designers

Our personalities and interests play an essential role in the careers we choose to pursue. The same is true for interior designers. While all interior designers should have a number of similar skills—such as problem-solving, creativity, flexibility, and communication—no two designers are exactly alike.

What drives each person is unique, and whether we realize it or not, it likely influences how we conduct our businesses. So we sat down with two designers for some fun insights into who they are and what drives them.

Get to Know Patrick Dragonette

Patrick Dragonette, founder of Dragonette Ltd, is a great source for high-end, mid 20th-century design, including furniture, art and accessories. Patrick plays dual roles, as both designer and curator of his shop for 23 years in Los Angeles, which is now on El Paseo in Palm Desert CA. We asked him the same questions as Katie to see what inspires and motivates him, too.

Describe yourself in 3 words: Generous. Difficult. Artistic.

Now, describe your style in 3 words: Collected, edited, and glamorous.

If you could live in only one room, what would it be? I believe it would have to be a contemporary great room where the kitchen, the dining room and,the living room are all sort of one communal space, because you can't live in one room and not have a kitchen.

No room is complete without… personality.

Who is your biggest inspiration, and why? William Haines. He epitomized the chicest of chic. He was able to mix freely from all different periods. He created what’s known as the Hollywood Regency look, which was elegant, effortless, and comfortable. And it was fine art.

If you could have a private dinner with anyone at any time, who would it be? I’d want to have dinner with William Haines and get in his head. I’d love to know how he had the courage to be an openly gay man in a straight world and also I’d want to know if it was difficult to walk away from the movies, from being the biggest star in the world and just walk away from it all.

Favorite Scent: Santal 26 by Le Labo. A few years ago when I did a show house for Luxe Magazine at Greystone, I actually really thought of all five senses. So I went to find a scent that made me very happy, and it turned out to be that one.

What song is on your playlist most often? I'm a Broadway geek. I went to theater school, and I literally listen pretty much exclusively to Broadway. So probably anything from “Hamilton” or “Dear Evan Hansen.”

How many unread messages in your inbox right now? Let's see. Oh gosh, this is a good day. 20.

Get to Know Katie Lambert

Katie Lambert, CEO and Business Asset Manager of IDG, has built a business based on the idea that your space is an opportunity to reflect your personality and preferences. We asked Katie what makes her tick as an interior designer, and here’s what she had to say.

Describe yourself in 3 words: Adaptable. Adventurous. Compassionate.

Now, describe your style in 3 words: Elegant, timeless and simple. That said, I do like to add a little sense of humor here and there to keep life fun.

If you could live in only one room, what would it be? An open concept kitchen and living room area. The heart of the home for family and friends, with great food! Who could ask for more?

No room is complete without… a statement piece that connects with you.

Who is your biggest inspiration, and why?  Jesus, he guides all I do. Showing us all how to love one another and do more good in this world. Truly an inspiration for me.

If you could have a private dinner with anyone at any time, who would it be? Oprah, her life story is such an inspiration, and the lives she touches and changes for the better are unbelievable. I would love to ask her how she did it all.

Favorite Scent:  Vanilla

What song is on your playlist most often? "Rescue” by Lauren Daigle. She is one of my favorites, along with “Celebrate” by Kool & The Gang.

How many unread messages are in your inbox right now? Yikes, that is sad to say but 3,820! I do preview them in my window panel, but WOW need to make time to read and file those.
